Mary is giggling :))

Roadl Dahl's "Lamb to the Slaughter"

Lamb to the Slaughter tells a story about Mary, a devoted and loyal wife of Patrick Maloney, who in the end killed her husband after the latter confessed that he is leaving her. Mary, at that time, was 6-month pregnant with their child.
Betrayal

Upon reading the short story, I had to be honest that I was a bit biased.  When Mary smacked her husband's head with the frozen lamb, which meant to be their dinner that night, I thought that her action was both right and wrong. In the eyes of the law, even the dumbest person on earth would say that killing a person is wrong. However, if we think from Mary's point of view then the action is just an act of innocence rather than violence.
Murder

All throughout their marriage Mary has led a meaningless life with her husband. Everyday she does the same routines at home. Rather than feeling grateful for such a devoted wife, Patrick decided to leave her even though she was carrying his child in her womb at that time. That just showed how thoughtless Patrick was as a husband and a future father.

Mary Maloney became a new person after she killed her husband. What makes me happy reading about her change was that Mary now makes decision and  everything she does is for her own self and also for her unborn child. She was smart enough to create an alibi to avoid from being accused of the murder and even more, she even managed to destroy the murder weapon in the cruelest yet brilliant kind of way.

Deceit

Mary was betrayed. And for that she murdered her husband. Thanks to her deceitful thinking, she was able to giggle away.
